Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center Sebring was selected as one of only five medical centers in the United States to perform live case transmissions for the 12th Annual Complex Cardiovascular Catheter Therapeutics’ Advanced Endovascular and Coronary Intervention Global Summit (C3) taking place in Orlando on June 28 – July 1, 2016. C3 is recognized as the premier, international cardiovascular symposium, emphasizing contemporary therapies for patients with complex cardiovascular disease, technological advances and scientific research.

Dr. Thomas M. Shimshak, the Florida Hospital Heartland Heart & Vascular Center Medical Director, will perform two complex, non-surgical vascular procedures from the Heart & Vascular Center inside Florida Hospital Sebring on June 29. These cases will be transmitted live via satellite to the main meeting in Orlando, which will include more than 1,400 physicians the United States, Central America, Europe and Asia.  This will be the second time Florida Hospital Sebring has participated as a live broadcast site for a cardiovascular meeting. In addition to the United States transmitting sites, live cases will also be performed from China, Denmark, India, Italy, United Kingdom and Sweden.

“It is a great honor for the Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center to be selected as a live case transmission site for such a prestigious and important meeting,” stated Dr. Shimshak. “Florida Hospital Sebring is able to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with advanced heart and vascular disease every day, so we are pleased to be able to share our experience and “best practices” with other physicians throughout the world.” Dr. Shimshak is a C3 Co-Director of the 2016 international symposium and has received their Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Florida Hospital Heart & Vascular Center is a regional cardiovascular center. Since its inception in 2007, the program has experienced consistent annual growth. The team of board-certified physicians provide contemporary cardiovascular care, including advanced coronary angioplasty and stenting, surgical and non-surgical treatment of peripheral vascular disease, and therapy for patients with complex rhythm disorders.

“Last year, over 944 coronary angioplasty/stent procedures were performed at our hospital, and outcomes exceeded national standards with the average “door to balloon time” of 68 minutes. This places Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Sebring in the top 10% of all hospital nationally that provide this service,” said Dr. Shimshak.

“Our hospital system is very proud of the hard work and diligence of the physicians and staff who make up the Heart & Vascular Center team.  For more than five years, this team has produced clinical results that compare favorably with nationally recognized benchmarks, and at the same time touched the lives of thousands of people in our community. To see the Center recognized on the international stage provided by C3 is particularly satisfying,” said Florida Hospital Heartland CEO and President Bruce Bergherm.
