Highlands County experienced considerable growth in fiscal year 2017-2018. New housing starts were up 14.2 percent with 193 permits issued during the year. The average price of the permitted houses was $219,046 and the average size was 1,964 square feet.
Residential real estate closings were up 4.4 percent with a total of 1,563 closings during the year. The average sale price was $145,147, which accounts for a 9.4 percent increase from the previous year.
